Finding new combinations of abilities was always thrilling, and for a game released 16 years ago, that one mechanic still stands out as being totally awesome. The Nintendo 64 was released 20 years ago! For many, this game was the very first truly 3D game they ever played, and it still holds up today for its incredible level design and responsive, precise movement. Do a barrel roll! Mario 64 style game made by Sucker Punch, the people who went on to create the Sly Cooper games, unlike many of the other Mario clones out there however Rocket is full to the brim with new ideas and concepts, so much so that it manages to give some of the more famous games such as Mario and Banjo a run for their money. Another racing classic on N64, which just goes to show how strong in was in that particular genre, Wave Race was a truly amazing game when it came out with undeniably brilliant water affects and gameplay, one of my personal favourites. For Jet Force Gemini Rare decided to focus more on gung ho action than in previous platformers, and the results were excellent. Nintendo dropped out of publishing entirely. Beautifully realised game where you fly different aircraft around islands fullfilling different mission criterias, a very singular and unique experience. PS1 but it turned out absolutely horrible in comparison.
What a fantastically original horror themed game brimming with depth! This definately has to be the biggest, greatest Turok game ever made, back from a time when the Turok games were actually still relevant. The game eventually recieved a new publisher two years after the N64 launch. Probably the best realistic driving game on the N64, looks great, provides a nice challenge and has loads of depth. One of the best arcade style racers on the N64, nice handling, loads of secrets, great tracks, definately a game to try out. The usual Rare humour was also apparent in spades too. PS1 original, loads of cool stuntwork, tons of depth, stone cold classic.
Outland is also very good. Also, El Shaddei is out soon, seems to be a good deal of platforming in that. Preferably not on PSN, because of some connectivity and bandwidth issues. There are a few new weapons and there is more to do during the space sections as you travel from planet to planet, in addition to the space shootouts you can land on moons for simple platforming sections. The only other great platformers I can think of are on PSN. She will love the art design. Also Littlebigplanet 2 is out now so if the first one was a hit then this should do fine. For one thing, the amount of charm in the whole thing is immense, you can tell Nintendo has lovingly crafted each and every corner of every level to make it interesting and unique. Definitely buy it now. But Super Mario 64 is still a classic. Above: This is probably giving Nintendo 64 era kids a lot of nostalgic flashbacks about now. Battlefield and see the whole level in front of you, a land filled with possibiities of all varieties. Yes, because the game looks amazing! Much better than in Sunshine where you had to at least play the first SEVEN levels in each area, or Galaxy 1 and 2 where you near enough had to play most of the levels just to move on. Just listening to the music from the water levels is so soothing, while the haunted house and cave music always has you on edge and the standard grass theme suits the feel of the levels its played in equally well.
